January 2021 sees the launch of our first round of Working Groups, which will be the engine rooms for developing the Blueprint for the Culm – our long-term master plan and investment plan for the catchment.

The Working Groups are open to all so please do join in whichever ones attract your interest. Some people have already told us the ones they want to be part of and if so we’ll be emailing you directly.

Meetings will be held at this zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/2825802844. There’s no need to book in advance, you can just show up (although if you want to get a diary invite to the groups, please just email us at hello@connectingtheculm.com and we’ll add you to the list for that group so you get automatic invites).

The dates for the first round of meetings (all at 4.30pm unless otherwise stated) are:

  • Nature-Based Solutions: 19 January (immediately after the Trees for the Culm Workshop, so starting at around 6pm)
  • Upper Culm: Broadhembury, Churchstanton, Clayhidon, Culmstock, Dunkeswell, Hemyock, Otterford, Sheldon, Uffculme – 26 January
  • Mid-Culm: Burlescombe, Butterleigh, Cullompton, Halberton, Holcombe Regus, Kentisbeare, Plymtree, Sampford Peverell, Tiverton, Uplowman, Willand – 28 January
  • Lower Culm: Bradninch, Brampford Speke, Broadclyst, Huxham, Nether Exe, Poltimore, Rewe, Silverton, Stoke Canon – 2 February
  • Water Quality: 4 February
  • Access: 10 February

At these first meetings we’ll be scoping out how we will work together, looking at our vision for the Culm and identifying the key issues we want to address. We’ll also decide whether the 4.30 start time is suitable for most people – if you can’t make it but would like to suggest another time, please do email us as above.

The agendas, papers and transactions of meetings will all be posted on our Google Drive.

We’re aiming for each Working Group to meet about every 6 weeks, so that’s 3 times each before the next Forum in June. By that point we aim to have agreed our vision and have begun building up a detailed picture of the kinds of actions we need to integrate in the Blueprint to achieve real change on the ground. So, plenty to do!
